hi, i have done my usability testing and i did with one person. the system still have some problems that need to be adjusted, lots of  the problems come from the reminder part because it was confusing to the user, but the messaging part was easy to him because it gives him a correct feedback he needs to see and the page stand on ti own it combine with any page but the reminder page  was joined with schedule page that why it was difficult for user to finish the task he was asked to do. also the reminder button is join with message button and both of them are not indicated in the same color with the remaining buttons that why reminder button was difficult to see by the user, so these were the few things i found from the user.

i’ll like to thank the members of the group for a well done job and also for the contribution and cooperation with each other, it was nice working with you guys and appreciate  it , hope to meet with you guys in any  group work, and final presentation was good and more details in it.

Chic – Final Presentation

April 14, 2009 at 9:26 am (Uncategorized)

Alright. I’ve done pretty much the entire presentation last night. It is still missing the heuristics, and the evaluations from Aliyu, John, and Abubakar. I’ve included the Summary, the Revisions, Jawad’s and Amina’s evaluation results, the survey results that I summarised, and the Conclusion and Recommendations.

Not everyone used the Transcript method as I’ve suggested before (while we were planning whom to evaluate the system with). Different styles were used, but everyone stuck to the evaluation guidelines, so expect similarities and differences in the presentation of the results. But in the end, these results will all be relevant so they will come together nicely.

This is the final lap. Brace yourselves as we shift into high gear and put the pedal to the metal!

Ciao.

John : User Testing and Evaluation

April 14, 2009 at 3:28 am (Uncategorized)

Hey Guys,

Finally, I did  he usability testing and evaluation. I gave the print out copies of our prototype to my roommate, who is doing final year in Bachelors in Business Administration. before the user testing the user was confused a bit, may be he thought am trying to test him. Well , i explained him about the process and about the project and he was very happy to do the user testing, and even it was easy for me, as the system is user friendly and easy to use, he asked doubts in using different options to a minimum, and made him fill the questionnaire.

Overall about the prototype the user was satisfied and gave good comments on the color schemes that have been used and he user really liked the home screen where all the updated lists are displayed. While creating a message he was very comfortable with the keyboard that have been given, as he said its like in the format of different hand held that he have used. Also while posting a message, the user was satisfied with the options for sending to a mobile number or to be displayed in the home screen/message box and the priority option. The home screen as i said he user liked a lot, he finds the recent calls and message tabs be more useful instead of browsing much in to different tabs and even the small calender that have been provided.  The scroll buttons was somewhat easy to figure out and use. Also in the calender, when clicked on a particular date, it displays the reminder/appointment that have been stored before, the user did find it useful. the user did commented on he phone book and since he is a student in keeping a timetable is what he was more interested in to , and that’s where Hermes Home Messaging System solved the issue.

The only part where the user complained was about making the icons a bit more smaller in size and using different fonts, and also about a personalized color schemes as different users will be signing in at different time.

So guys, i hope Hermes HMS is a success, but we all know the fact that nothing is perfect, but am happy that we succeeded in achieving our goals by making the software easy and user friendly and with all the helpful options and functions that is necessary and also we met with all the scenarios that we have agreed to from each persona’s by our fellow members of the group.

Now,lets focus on the presentation for tomorrow and that’s going to be the last presentation we will be doing for this module.

Good luck Mates!

Aliyu- Usability test

April 14, 2009 at 12:24 am (Uncategorized)

Hi guys,

i did my usablity testing with my brother, he is a first year student studying BIS and Management, while conducting the test i noticed some thing about a user which was taught in class, things like the user feels like he is the one being tested  not the system, as i was observing him using the system he wasn’t sure about the (OTHER OPTIONS) at the creating message screen. But when i pointed that out after the test he was trying to argue other wise. Also during the test i noticed that the user goes quiet at a certain stage even though i asked him to think aloud.

Even though my user does not like his photo to be taken, but from what i understand notes taking, images, and observation dont seems to be enough as i get to forget other details of the users action and also the user does not act 100% natural. Overall the user find the system very pleasing in terms of the structural layout and use of colours, medium in terms of difficulty. this was some of the user’s feedback  based on the questionnaire he filled out after the test

Good luck every body

for the presentation tomorrow, i did a usability testing on a friend of mine. and based on the questionaire and observation, i came up with a conclusion that the user finds the system okay to use…. the system isnt  all that complicated for a normal user to understand.

for the rest of the findings, i will present in the presentation tomorrow.

on an overall basis, i find working with my group members useful. i have really learnt alot from every one of them. everything is going well in the group.

Chic – Evaluation on Hermes 1.0.1

April 12, 2009 at 9:09 pm (Uncategorized)

We are at the home stretch, and we’re pushing everything to the limit!

Alright, I’ll admit that I may have been slacking off on the blog posts over the last week. I’m planning on making up for it by doing some significant work.

Over the weekend, I’ve evaluated the Hermes (Beta 1.0.1) system with my younger brother, JB. Overall, this updated version seems to have more logical flow to it, and may even be more user-friendly. Of course, it can never be error-free, and focusing solely on the results of just my evaluation results, it may seem that we haven’t been able to understand the user’s lingo; there are some terms that the user can’t understand.

For the evaluation test, I conducted an Observation with Think-Aloud, taking careful notes for the transcript. Then, right after the test, I had my evaluator fill out a questionnaire, which was basically the same one we used for the previous evaluation. I’ve also taken several photographs of the proceedings for documentation and posterity.

Anyways, I’m ready for my part of the presentation. I thought there was going to be a group meeting this afternoon (at least, that was the impression I had), but nobody came. Nevertheless, there is still one day to compile the test results and finalise the presentation slides for Tuesday’s Judgment Day.

Ciao.

John – Just one more Presentation…Yippeee..!

April 11, 2009 at 4:03 am (Uncategorized)

Hey Guys,

Am so happy, just one more presentation and we are done ( Kidding),
It’s been long since i added a post, so let me share what was happening with me regarding this subject so far.
As we discussed in the previous group meeting, i have printed out the copies of our final prototype and done with the questionnaire. Now it time for hunting, need to find 4 people to do the user testing.
Yeah! i’ve gone through the final prototype again, and from my point of view its perfect, nothing more have to be added or removed.
Change in the key board and the confusing sections in schedule and appointment tabs has been fixed.
Theres nothing more i could added, as most of the things have been told by Peachkyo in his last entry of the blog.
Hope things are going fine with all my fellow member, once am done
with my user testing and heuristic evaluation, i’ll be posting a detailed report.

Cheers Mates !

Concerning our final presentation we’ve talked about it  and worked on it today by choosing the scenarios we will use for testing also we came up with how the evaluation plan will go,  and every member  chose who is  going to test with, where and when. further more, in terms of  how the evaluation will go is that, we decided to do observation, take  pictures during testing  to show that is if who we tested with let us present his or her picture, but apart from this we have note  taking  do and also we are using survey questions for testing, moreover , while  posting this report  still our system is under modification, so hopefully it will  be ready by next week and all evaluations will take place  immediately.

I thank members of this group for doing the good work we are doing, keep it up that how team should cooperate with each other by sharing ideas and helping each other, see guys next meeting.

Chic – Design & Evaluation

March 31, 2009 at 12:34 am (Uncategorized)

And so, here is what I did over the last week for the Home Messaging System…

Based on the group meeting (which used time from the seminar class) that was conducted last week, I’ve worked on the colours of the Hermes Beta 1.0.1 to match that of the previous design, keeping to the blue “theme” of Hermes Beta 1.0 as per the final group decision.

I was already thinking of the Sort capability for the Messages & Reminders, but my initial design was a bit too difficult to pull off. As per Jawad’s suggestion, I’ve relocated the Sort buttons higher up, just between the main navigation buttons and the first message. This way, the user is immediately made aware of the arrangement of the messages on the screen, and what other possibilities are available for him/her.

To save space on my limited workspace, I’ve opted to have the messages minimized by default. By minimized, I mean that only the title, the author, the recipients, the time of posting, and the status of the message are displayed. However, for each message, I’ve added the options to “Show the full message” and to “Reply to this message” for the user’s convenience. When the user goes to “Show the full message”, the message box expands downwards to show the contents of the message, and the button changes to “Minimize this message”.

Thus far, there has been no high-impact change to the design, and I won’t be making the mistake of doing it on my own again. Somehow, the group has to sit down and work on the system together.

As for the evaluation, I believe observation is the most preferable method, not only because Dr. Lejla hinted on it, but also because it’s among the very few techniques that will yield any useful results at this stage of the development. I’ll try to grab some other software for the screen capture if I can’t get Dr. Lejla’s software. Otherwise, we’d have to either go with just notes, or pack our own video cameras.

I’m looking forward to tomorrow’s laboratory class, so the group can work as a team on the design process.

Ciao.
