Concerning our final presentation we’ve talked about it and worked on it today by choosing the scenarios we will use for testing also we came up with how the evaluation plan will go, and every member chose who is going to test with, where and when. further more, in terms of how the evaluation will go is that, we decided to do observation, take pictures during testing to show that is if who we tested with let us present his or her picture, but apart from this we have note taking do and also we are using survey questions for testing, moreover , while posting this report still our system is under modification, so hopefully it will be ready by next week and all evaluations will take place immediately.
I thank members of this group for doing the good work we are doing, keep it up that how team should cooperate with each other by sharing ideas and helping each other, see guys next meeting.
Chic – Design & Evaluation
And so, here is what I did over the last week for the Home Messaging System…
Based on the group meeting (which used time from the seminar class) that was conducted last week, I’ve worked on the colours of the Hermes Beta 1.0.1 to match that of the previous design, keeping to the blue “theme” of Hermes Beta 1.0 as per the final group decision.
I was already thinking of the Sort capability for the Messages & Reminders, but my initial design was a bit too difficult to pull off. As per Jawad’s suggestion, I’ve relocated the Sort buttons higher up, just between the main navigation buttons and the first message. This way, the user is immediately made aware of the arrangement of the messages on the screen, and what other possibilities are available for him/her.
To save space on my limited workspace, I’ve opted to have the messages minimized by default. By minimized, I mean that only the title, the author, the recipients, the time of posting, and the status of the message are displayed. However, for each message, I’ve added the options to “Show the full message” and to “Reply to this message” for the user’s convenience. When the user goes to “Show the full message”, the message box expands downwards to show the contents of the message, and the button changes to “Minimize this message”.
Thus far, there has been no high-impact change to the design, and I won’t be making the mistake of doing it on my own again. Somehow, the group has to sit down and work on the system together.
As for the evaluation, I believe observation is the most preferable method, not only because Dr. Lejla hinted on it, but also because it’s among the very few techniques that will yield any useful results at this stage of the development. I’ll try to grab some other software for the screen capture if I can’t get Dr. Lejla’s software. Otherwise, we’d have to either go with just notes, or pack our own video cameras.
I’m looking forward to tomorrow’s laboratory class, so the group can work as a team on the design process.
Ciao.

John : Final Design Evaluation
Hi Guys,
JAAPAN systems, just couple of weeks we got in hand to finish off the final evaluation. in which we will be doing Heuristic Evaluation and field base observations. where each member have to work with the persona he/she created and according to the persona each should carry out the evaluation and testing.
There haven’t been any group meetings as i think from the previous lectures its clear that it is more of individual work for a while.
Since we have decided to stick to the design we presented on the previous presentation, i believe all the suggestions and changes have been made, and we are still working on making it more simple and unique.
So far things are going well with our group, keep up the spirit guys.
Once again i thank all my fellow members for the effort and suggestions and carrying out each tasks in a timely manner.
Further more changes and evaluation results will be discussed in our coming group meetings.
Cheers !

last two weeks we had a presentation which went well…i did a user testing on a 23year old woman who is an undergraduate and whos moderate in using the computer system. i basically asked her to create a reminder using the initial prototype because it relates to my scenario and also to complete the questions regarding the system which we created as as a group. after all that, i found out that;
she thinks the keyboard is okay but might be confusing for others to understand
the finds the layout okay
the navigation okay too
overall, she finds the system okay to use and attractive.
after going through the presentation, we changed the prototype according to the results of the user testing and then we did a heuristic evaluation in the last class(create a message) based on the prototype we modified and after that we decided that each member should carry out the evaluation based on all the scenarios each created at the begining and report back wen we next meet.
overall, the projects going well. we Thank God and everythings going well in the group
Aliyu- Evaluating the prototype
Hi everybody, i have been short of updates this past few days not because of there is none but for other reasons. With that aside I have tried evaluating our system based on what was being thought in class, i.e. usability expert review though I know you will be wondering who will be my experts. My friends (Year 3, Mst I.T students). They evaluated the system based on the giving guidelines, this guide lines are what was given to us in class.
- Navigation and interaction: The Menu (Messages, Reminders, Phonebook etc) bring about good navigation to the system and the labels, and keyboard bring about good interaction to the system.
- Visual Design and Layout: the use of colors to differentiate different aspects of the system also improves the layout.
- Content: The system has the content of almost all that is needed for a home messaging system.
- Accessibility: They feel the system will be more accessible to medium and power users.
- Persuasiveness: Medium
The above result was a summary of their views on the system.
I think next will be for us to evaluate based on the heuristic approach.
Cheers!

what we did this is that we had a meeting on the our prototype modification and every one in the group gave his or her evaluation result which we got from the users, and we adjusted the system by putting notes down and after that we gave the adjustment notes and sketches to the person that built our previous prototypes to adjust it, and we decided that after he adjusted it ,the updated prototype will be sent to every member of the group to his or her email in order to start with heuristic evaluation and also prepare for the presentation.
thank members of this group for cooperation and contribution.

Hello Team!
Hope you all are fine? I am sending this blog to ask a few questions and also to thank you all for your efforts in the last presentation. My question is on our meeting. I would like to know when the next meeting will be held and where it will be held. The Hermes B 1.0 is ready for a final display for the users and we need to have an overall discussion on minor issues concerning our next task.
The next task is not fully clear to we all yet i beleive but incase anyone has any idea or sujestion, then he or she should share it with us. Our effort so far has been fruitful and we cannot dissapoint the users at this point. The next meeting will be discussed in the class on tuesday as we all will be attending. In our next meeting, we should be hoping that our final lap of this course or project is been completed. Thank you all and God bless
John : Final Design
Hey Guys,
Good works mates! Our presentation wasn’t that great as compared to the previous presentations we have done. We need to work on it guys. As we all know the last presentation is in 2 weeks and we have to make sure we break the bonds and make it a success.
As per the user evaluation and testing, we came up with few changes that have to be made in the system we have created. As a result of the user testing that I have done changes in Schedule/Appointments has to be made. It should make it easier for the user to understand and make entries. We already talked about the keyboard, as the present system have a keyboard which is of a PC with all the function keys and other keys, we should include only the alphabets (upper and lower case), numbers and symbols and necessary keys. Also we should consider the change in colour; I guess personalized colour themes are a good idea!
Since we have to prototype, it would be better if we take a look at both again and the improvements which have been noted down. It will be better if we can compare both the systems again and merge the necessary parts and include new functions or remove which is not needed.
Yeah! About working in group, I believe today for BIS 2311 (Engie Bashir) the lecture she gave did help us in working together as a team, the lecture did highlight the part that how a group member should be. This really is giving us a chance to apply few aspects from what we learned from other subjects in our system design and presentations.
So let’s put our ideas and user requirements together again, and work on this final phase. Our system JAAPAN system is made to be EASY and SIMPLE and meet the user requirements. If anyone feels like more have to be done, then “its never too late Mates!”
Cheers !
John – User Testing for the Prototype.
Hey Guys,
For the prototype we created, i have done the user testing with a university student whos doing Masters. Basically the user did like the system but he did give me feed backs like :
1. the keyboard which we provided in the system should be changed and made it simple.
2. in making a schedule or appoinment , the void columns are confusing as a set of same empty spaces are given.
3. some functions are confusing and he finds in some pages of the system the buttons are crowded.
Other than these feedback, the user was very happy with the system and other than a few functions he found the system is easy to use.
Later on for the group meeting we going to have i hope the negative aspects givne by the user in each User testing results will be rectified.
So now, lets just concentrate on the presentation now.
Good luck Guys.

Concerning the presentation and the questioniares, the evaluation for the system has sucessfully beign done, analyisis also and ready for the presentation. In respect to the slides we prepared, our survey will show statistics on the users thoughts to the system and the design. Please to all the team members, let us put in our best at the presentation and proof ourselves once more.
I would like to use this oppurtunity to say good Job all and well done for your efforts. See you all at the presentation and I wish us the very best.
